Some moments stay with you, no matter how far you travel. Our recent team incentive trip to Greece was one of those times. A few days spent exploring islands, racing across open water, sweating through back-to-back matches, and laughing late into the night ended up being so much more than a reward. It became a reminder. A reminder of who we are as a team, what we believe in, and how powerful shared experience can be when it’s built on hustle, heart, and hunger to grow.
Every morning in Greece started with energy. Most days, it was padel. What began as tapped balls over the net ended up as full-blown competitions. Think dive shots, tie-breaks and the kind of mid-game banter that only comes from real connection. But beneath the fun of it, the court mirrored something deeper. Pressure isn’t something you escape from in sales or sport. You learn to lean into it. We had teammates step forward to play doubles out of their comfort zone. One match had a first-time player paired with a more experienced one. After dropping the first set, they came back with better communication and trust, bringing their opposites together and winning the second set. That moment had nothing to do with rackets and everything to do with leadership.
Kayaking took us from land to sea, pushing us in completely different ways. It was no luxury paddle. The water had a current, the sun was intense, and if you weren’t working in sync, your boat spun in circles. Some of us had perfect rhythm within minutes. Others clashed oars for twenty. But every stroke was a lesson in patience, coordination and shared focus. On one leg of the trip, we hit unexpected headwind. What was meant to be a float turned into an all-out effort. No complaints, no turnarounds. Just grit. At the finish line, we weren’t thinking about sore arms. We were thinking about how much we trust each other to push through when it matters.
But it wasn’t all sport and sweat. Growth happened during the quiet talks too, over grilled fish in a backstreet taverna, or sat side-by-side on a boat with salt-damp clothes and fresh ideas. We opened up about goals for the year. We swapped feedback that didn’t feel like a meeting agenda. One of our rookies said it best, “I’ve never felt so heard while being completely off the clock.” You don’t find that kind of communication in a boardroom. You find it mid-conversation between islands.
From the streets of Rhodes to hidden beaches in Symi, what kept us moving wasn’t just scenery. It was curiosity. Curiosity to try new food, to ask deeper questions, to reflect on where we’re heading. We learned that leadership doesn’t always mean being the loudest voice. Sometimes it’s being the first to pick up the bill, or the last to hop back onto the boat, making sure everyone else is on first. That’s the student mindset we talk about at Playbook.
