Company
What’s the Culture Like at Playbook Direct?
We keep things open, honest, and grounded in respect. No egos, no hierarchy games. Just a shared goal of growth and great results. Everyone’s voice matters here, and we encourage fresh ideas from across the team, no matter your title or experience.
There’s no waiting around for time to pass before moving up. Progression is all about performance. If you’re showing up, learning fast, and adding value, you’ll get the recognition and opportunities to match.
The vibe? We work hard, we back each other, and when the day’s done, we switch off properly so everyone can enjoy their time outside of work.
What Does Work-Life Balance Look Like?
Work-life balance isn’t a one-size-fits-all. And we get that. Everyone has different ways of working, different goals, and different rhythms.
At Playbook Direct, we’re big on accountability. That means managing your time, knowing when to push, and knowing when to switch off. Some campaigns get busy, and that’s when the team steps up. But we also encourage real downtime. When you’re off, you’re off. No checking in. No blurred lines.
We expect focus while you’re here, and freedom when you’re not.
What Are the Career Opportunities Like?
Growth is part of the deal. Every team member checks in weekly with their Talent Scout or Director to talk through progress, goals, and any support needed. It’s not just a tick-box, it’s there to help you move forward at your pace.
Internal progression is something we take seriously. Some of our leadership team started where you are now. With structured training and clear goals, you’ll always know where you stand and what’s next if you want to level up.
And because our business is growing, we’re always on the lookout for people ready to take on more. If you’re hungry to lead, we’re ready to build around that.
Recruitment Process
What Makes Someone Stand Out in the Recruitment Process?
The people who tend to stand out have taken time to really think about their goals: where they want to be, what they’re hoping to earn, and why this path makes sense for them.
You don’t need all the answers right away, but having clarity (or at least curiosity) helps us figure out if we can support your direction. It’s all about making sure there’s a good fit, both ways. When there’s real alignment from the start, it’s much easier to build a strong career path with clear next steps.
Can I Get Feedback if I Don’t Make It Through?
Absolutely. If it’s not the right fit this time, you’re welcome to ask for feedback. We aim to keep things transparent and respectful, and we’ll always let you know as soon as a decision has been made, so you’re not left hanging.
Will I Meet the Directors or Hiring Team During the Process?
Yes. You’ll likely meet one of our Trainee Directors in the earlier stages, and if things progress, you’ll have a chance to connect with a Junior or Senior Director in your final interview. Even though our process is virtual, we still make sure you speak to the people who actually lead the team. It’s important you get a feel for who we are, just like we’re getting to know you.
What Are the Stages in the Process?
Our recruitment process usually goes like this:
Stage 1: Intro Call
An introduction meeting that covers the essentials: what’s on offer, how we work, and the types of opportunities available. It’s a chance to make sure we’re aligned and that moving forward makes sense for both sides.
Stage 2: One-to-One Interview
A more in-depth conversation with a Trainee Director. We’ll dive into your goals, answer any questions you have, and give you a clearer picture of the opportunities, including the pay structure, expectations, targets, and growth opportunities.
Stage 3: Final Interview
This is a one-on-one with a Junior or Senior Director. It’s a great chance to have a deeper conversation, get honest answers to your questions, and make sure there’s a strong fit on both sides so we can make final decisions.
About Sales and Marketing Positions
How are the sales and marketing teams compensated?
At Playbook Direct, we believe in recognising and rewarding high performance. Our compensation structure is designed to incentivise results, offering team members the opportunity to boost their earnings by consistently meeting or exceeding their targets.
We’re proud to offer market-leading compensation, made possible by our strong business performance. For all entry-level positions, we provide a day rate with commissions on top of that.
We set high standards across the board. Team members who bring energy, commitment, and a strong work ethic can expect to be rewarded in line with their efforts.
Why does Playbook Direct hire entry-level candidates?
We’ve built a development-focused culture, which is why we exclusively promote from within. All of our leaders, including our directors, have started in entry-level roles. Meaning your manager will have firsthand experience of your position and will be well-equipped to support you.
Our in-house training is a mix of classroom sessions and practical, hands-on coaching. This approach ensures every team member is given the tools to grow, succeed, and lead.
I don’t have sales experience – can I still be successful here?
Absolutely. We welcome candidates from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds. Whether you come from business, hospitality, sports, or something entirely different, our training programs are designed to equip you with everything you need to thrive in sales and marketing.
While previous experience can be helpful, it’s not essential. We provide in-depth classroom training and on-the-job mentorship covering product knowledge, customer acquisition strategies, and our core sales systems.
Success at Playbook Direct is driven by attitude, adaptability, and a willingness to learn. Not exclusively by your CV.
What does a typical week look like?
A typical week blends training and real-world application. You’ll spend part of your time in the Playbook Academy, learning best practices from peers and senior leaders, and gaining a deeper understanding of your client’s brand, product knowledge, and sales techniques.
The rest of your week will be spent in the field, engaging directly with customers. Whether in residential areas, in businesses, or at pre-arranged promotional events. You’ll present your client’s offering, address customer needs, and complete live sales using a consultative approach.
For those progressing into senior positions, additional training is built into your week to develop leadership, strategy, and people management skills.
Are there opportunities to move to different clients or sales channels? What about international opportunities?
Yes. As your skills and experience grow, you’ll have the chance to transition across different campaigns, sectors, or even into new markets. Our clients span industries like energy, telecoms, food & beverage, and nonprofits, so there’s room to expand your expertise.
We’re also scaling our operations nationally and internationally, which creates additional opportunities for travel, relocation, or leadership in new locations.
About Office Roles – Management opportunities
How are senior directors compensated?
Senior directors at Playbook Direct receive a comprehensive compensation package, including a base salary, location-based allowances, and performance-related bonuses. Their bonus structure is directly tied to both personal output and the overall results of the teams they lead.
This structure ensures that senior directors are invested in developing and supporting high-performing teams, as their own success depends on the success of those they mentor.
Can I progress into a senior director role?
Yes, and many do. We currently have multiple senior director vacancies due to our continued expansion across UK markets and beyond.
We never hire senior directors externally. Every one of our leaders has progressed through the Playbook Academy, which includes three core tracks: the Sales Academy, Leadership Academy, and Management Academy.
If you’re ambitious, coachable, and results-driven, there’s a clear path from sales executive to director, no matter where you’re starting from.
What will I learn in the Playbook Academy?
The Playbook Leadership Academy
Once team members have consistently performed at a high level in their junior sales and marketing roles, they may be invited to apply for The Playbook Leadership Academy. This program is designed to help top performers expand their skill set and take the next step toward leadership.
The academy focuses on key areas such as training and coaching others, recruitment, public speaking, client and campaign management, and critical thinking. It equips individuals with the tools and confidence to inspire and lead a team while continuing to grow their own abilities.
Those who show exceptional potential during this phase may be selected to progress into the Playbook Management Academy.
The Playbook Management Academy
The Playbook Management Academy is the most advanced stage of development within our internal training structure. It’s a selective program available to standout graduates of the Leadership Academy.
This academy focuses on the high-level skills needed to run and grow a business unit. Senior team members are trained in recruitment strategy, back-end business operations, campaign planning, and team development, learning directly from experienced directors who have progressed through the same journey.
Participants also gain access to advanced workshops, international networking conferences, leadership retreats, and industry award events.
Upon completion, graduates move into senior director roles, where they lead their own client campaigns, oversee teams, and help shape the future of Playbook, while continuing to mentor and train the next generation of leaders.
